When the season comes to an end, cheers rise and tears fall. Football players take the field, volleyball players rally up in the court, and the marching band snaps to attention for one last time. Seniors look around and realize that they will never walk those steps and make those plays again. This is the last time they will play with the people they have grown up with.

On the court, the girls set and spike another season away with pride. The student section roars in the gym. The team plays as if they could read each other’s minds; they have been practicing for most of their lives. It all leads up to the seniors’ last game. Last call. The last spike onto the court.

Senior volleyball player, Kaity Frick says, “Being a senior Saber volleyball, I have always wanted to be a role model for future players in the sport. Though it is sad for me to take off my Saber uniform for the last time and say goodbye to the teammates I’ve played with for years.”

Tailgates and teammates, glitter and striped overalls colored purple and gold. Face paint, and chants. Football season is the season for the community to come together and cheer from the stands. Grandparents, parents, teachers, and students rise to sing the school song while the band plays in unison. Senior Football Captain, Ethan Pierce said of his time on the field, “It was so sad to see it end, it’s an end of an era for me.

The band’s trumpets mark the seconds before the kicker sends the football across the field and the band screams preparing for halftime. Shuffling into lines, and marching to the beat made by the drum. “HUT!”Senior drum major, Casey Lopez states that, “After four years of marching band, I’ve learned a lot. I’ve looked forward to the special feeling marching band has given me each year, and it’s going to make me miss seeing the smiles people had after the performances.”

With each note and each step is a step and a count away from the end of the show, the end of the season. Even as the end of the fall season is a heartbreaking fade, the end of fall means the beginning of the winter season: basketball, wrestling, pep band, and bowling. The last times grow faint and start all over again to a new beginning.
