Sitting in the seats of the auditorium all an audience can see is the finished product. They never see the hours poured into building the set, creating the costumes, and memorizing the countless lines in the script. As Senior Emma Kizer can attest, putting on a show is a huge undertaking. “There’s a lot of time that goes into the show, a lot of hours, and a lot of weekends that we give up because we want to make sure that we have not only good acting but that everything pops on stage.”

To guide their efforts comes a new face to Saber Drama: Ms. Emily Beilke. As the new director, Beilke has found putting on a show takes a lot of time and hard work. “I don’t even know how many hours outside of school people have put in,” says Beilke.

“Whether it’s been vocal rehearsal, blocking rehearsal, building set, at home going over lines I think an inordinate amount of work has been put in outside of school to make this show as spectacular as I believe it’s going to be,” added Beilke.

The many parts of the Saber Drama operation that typically aren’t seen are often what makes the show so enjoyable in the end. After auditions, the cast begins to memorize their lines, and prepare for the stage. From there they begin to learn each movement, song, and dance to bring the show to life. Similarly, the crew began with only ideas and then soon starts to paint, build, and create each piece of the set to add color to the performance.

Now as the weekend of November 15th approaches the cast and crew begin to work even harder to put on the final touches to make Shrek the Musical perfect.
